Pro Bono Publico

We believe in giving back to the community by offering narrative consultancy services on a pro bono basis for eligible organisations.

Who is eligible for pro bono services?

Registered charitable organisations or registered non-profits are eligible.

What is pro bono?

Pro bono comes from the Latin term “pro bono publico” and means “for the common good”.
It refers to the provision of services for the greater good of society, often meaning that services are provided to those who otherwise might not be able to afford them. Pro bono work is intended to create equal opportunities in society through equal access to resources.
We are such a resource for organisations.

Pro bono work is not “free”. Pro bono work is offered at market rates but without charging these rates to the beneficiary. We will always let organisations know the value of the services we offer and we will issue an invoice (payable $0) with a summary of the true $value of our work.

What services are offered pro bono?

Narrative consultancy is offered on a pro bono basis. Narrative consultancy includes strategy one-on-one meetings with our founder or a senior producer to advise organisations on their narrative excellence, storytelling efficiency and audience outreach.

Production services, including creative conceptualisation, pitch materials, story development and all phases of media production are always billable items and not subject to pro bono.

We consult from our perspective as film industry and digital storytelling specialists and have helped all of our clients to focus their campaign efforts with clarity. We are not an advertising agency and we don’t provide branding services. We also tell organisations if we feel that we are not the right partner for their needs and suggest other resources to them instead.

How does it work?

Eligible organisations can request to be considered for our pro bono scheme via email, subject to approval (we will check your registration or ask for proof of operations).

Once approved, we offer up to 2h of narrative consultancy on a pro bono basis.
When these hours are used up, organisations may book services for hire with us.

Once services for hire are booked, an additional package of 2h pro bono work is triggered.
As such, eligible organisations can maximise to receive half a consultancy work day pro bono.
It’s a sweet spot — we find that organisations often need us to move into actual production of materials or conceptual development after that, which sits outside the pro bono scheme.

To constantly improve our community services, we will collect feedback from organisations.

Why are production services not pro bono?

Media production, especially film production, requires many highly qualified people, equipment and software. We are proud to be able to offer extremely diverse project scales to organisations to match their narrative and budgeting needs - but we do not ask our crew and cast to work for free. Our clients can expect professionalism and capability from us, while we expect from our clients that they see us as their partner, not as disposables. We value mutual respect.
